FAQ

Arrival and Departure?
Bronte Boats is known for its flexibility so we try to work around your requirements. Usually we endeavour to have our boats ready for collection at 2pm on the day of departure. If for any reason you are unable to arrive on time, please contact the booking office so that prior arrangements can be made. Your boat must be returned and vacated by 9:30am.

Tuition? – Do we need experience?
You don’t need any experience. Before your holiday you can view our videos of how to operate a lock from our website or we can post you a DVD. Upon arrival we will then show you how the boat works and guide you through the first lock. We will stay with you until you feel comfortable with how everything works, so you feel relaxed and enjoy your holiday.

Which route should we choose?
If you want a leisurely trip or this is your first time on the canal, do not be overly ambitious and ensure you have a relaxing holiday. For the more ambitious or experienced boater there are the Pennine rings. Call us if you need advice on routes.

Are all routes available?
On any waterway holiday, traffic may occasionally have to stop, for instance for emergency repairs to structures, flood on rivers or water shortage on canals. British Waterways work hard to prevent delays but be prepared to change your route if something happens. We will do everything we can to help.

What linen will be provided?
Double or single duvet sets with sheets, pillows and pillowcases as required. Please indicate your bedding requirements on your booking form. Tea towels are provided. Towels are not, please bring your won.

Insurance?
You are covered for damage to the boat and third party claims for accidents involving the boat up to £3m. A damage liability waiver fee is included in the price quoted. For personal accidents and personal possessions, we strongly recommend the optional scheme unless you have other insurance.

Do we need a minimum crew?
Unfortunately you have to have a minimum crew of two adults. One person to handle the boat and one to work the locks.

Children and Adult non swimmers?
Don’t panic folks we will provide life jackets free of charge. We recommend children wear life jackets, especially when helping with the locks.

Pets? Pets are very welcome but unfortunately a small cleaning fee will be included.

Electrical Appliances? All the boats have both mains and 12 volt electrics.

Fishing? There’s some good sport to be had. Most of the fishing clubs sell day or weekly permits but you must have a national rod licence.
